Common Questions

What rate does the Portuguese Cash Rebate offer?

The ICA Cash Rebate returns 25% of eligible Portuguese expenditure, rising to 30% depending on a cultural test and the characteristics of the project. Higher-budget productions can instead use the Cash Refund, which refunds 30% on the first €2M of eligible spend.

How is the cash rebate paid?

ICA pays the Cash Rebate as upfront cash installments, funded by the Fund for Tourism and Cinema, released against verified Portuguese spend rather than as a tax offset.

Is there a cap on the support amount?

The high-budget Cash Refund is capped at €6 million per audiovisual work, or €3 million per episode, drawn from a €20 million annual budget. The standard Cash Rebate is subject to ICA's per-project limits and available annual funding.

Do I need a Portuguese production company?

Yes. Work with a Portuguese production services company. Fixers in Portugal can serve as your local partner and handle all requirements.
